The reigning doyennes of disco soul.

Philadelphia trio First Choice never achieved the commercial success they deserved during their ten year career.

But in 1983, label Salsoul released ‘Let No Man Put Asunder’ from their seventies album Delusions, which hit the top 20 and made the group a household name.

Meanwhile techno, house and hip-hop producers turned First Choice vocal samples into dance floor anthems.

To pay fitting tribute to the group is Rex Club resident Molly.

Listen to the mix, find out why she selected First Choice, and check out the track list below.

“As a house music lover I’ve always paid special attention to the disco music. House music comes from disco, it has a big influence and many tracks sample old disco tunes.

This is the reason why I have decided to deliver to you this special mix of First Choice. Those women made some big disco tunes during the ’70s, and some of my favourite artists sampled them, like Frankie Knuckles and Kerri Chandler.

Beside the fact that they have amazing voices, their songs were also a critique on some important subjects of American society, as well as woman’s rights, about being strong and of course about love. This music makes me happy anytime and can make anyone dance.”
