Mellow weirdo electronics from Rush Hour

In this week’s VF Live in Rush Hour, Ruutu Poiss and Orpheu The Wizard lead us through “mellow weirdo electronics by friends and affiliates, coupled with some Estonian music and rare singer-songwriter gems from the past.”

Tallinn and Amsterdam-based electronic musician, Ruutu Poiss, leftfield electronics, futuristic synth funk and off-kilter dance music. For the past decade, his sonic signature has been featured on compilations by Porridge Bullet, Love International, Fasaan Recordings, and he has released solo EPs and singles on Levels, IML, Mida, Rets Records, and two albums on Wake Dream (NL). His latest LP II was released on Wake Dream this spring.

Orpheu The Wizard is an Amsterdam mainstay and has been active in his hometown scene for almost two decades. Since 2020, the DJ, radio host, booker, digger, connector and curator has run the aforementioned label, Wake Dream.

“Ruutu Poiss and I share a certain sonic oddball-ness, and fascination for the dubby and the leftfield,” explains Orpheu The Wizard. “We freestyled an hour of jams that all in some way floats in this realm, sonically I also think very much in the sphere of RP’s own music.”
