Keaton Henson exercises his artistic side for this unique illustrated playlist.

Earlier this month, singer and songwriter Keaton Henson announced the vinyl release of his first collection of electronic recordings. Constructed in isolation, often recorded in the dark and with vocals laid down in one take, Behaving is Henson at his most exposed, illuminating the knotted, insular experience of the writing music in the shadow of his yet untitled new album.

If Behaving, and the classically influenced instrumentals of Romantic Works have revealed Henson to be a flexible, open-minded artist not beholden to a generic types, then his response to our request for a feature bears this out even further. Subject of a lyrical psychoanalysis and having recently published a collection of poetry, he’s provided us with an utterly unique illustrated playlist, accompanying a selection of his favourite electronic tracks with bespoke illustrations.

Responding to the music and the contexts of each track, sometimes expressively, at other times more literally, the selection below stands as a document of Henson’s reference points in crafting Behaving, drawing inspiration from across a wide spectrum that includes Pariah’s club-ready 12″ ‘Detroit Falls’, Burial + Four Tet’s somnambulant night drive anthem ‘Moth’, the left field disco of Arthur Russell’s Let’s Go Swimming’ and Icelandic post-rockers múm at their most reflective.

Behaving is available to pre-order on vinyl ahead of its release on 25th November. Listen to all ten tracks above while you explore Keaton Henson’s illustrated playlist.
