Because every record collection has a story.

Home Grown is our series profiling you lot and your excellent record collections. Taking our cue from the brilliant submissions to the #VFRecordCollections thread on Instagram, we want to share a little of your hard-earned love for vinyl with the world.

Each week, we’ll be profiling a different collector from around the world and finding out what makes them tick. Want in? Send us a pic and a few words about your collection to [email protected]

Name: Stevie Mochrie

Location: Glasgow, Scotland

# of records (approx.): 5000 7”s and 2500 LPs

How long have you been collecting for? 39 years

What part of your set-up are you most proud of?

The speakers that, although not the dearest, the were given to me by Ex Rezillos Bass Player Johnny Brady, a good friend of mine. My turntable is in need of a an upgrade, but every time I intend to buy one more vinyl becomes available.

What record(s) are you most proud of?

It’s hard to choose just one, because I’m proud of how eclectic it is. I was brought up with ’60s music from my parents, so a lot of my vinyl is from that time. But my music as a teenager in the late ’70s centred around punk and new wave. I just bought up everything I could. Now I buy as much of the new indie stuff as possible.

Just about all the records were bought by myself – no freebies from DJs. I think I can remember just about what shop and year etc I bought them.

What does your record collection mean to you?

After my family, everything. I can go up to the “Record Room” and lose myself for hours and hours. Another great pleasure is seeing my children growing up loving music, hopefully through my playing those vinyl records.

You really can trace your life through vinyl records, be it good or bad.
