How long have you been collecting for?

18 years – I started buying records in high school and while I’ve had to slow down at certain times in my life, my record collection has always been the most important thing I own.

What part of your set-up are you most proud of?

I love our 1200s and Klipsch speakers.  None of our equipment is too fancy, and we’re not hi-fi aficionados.  My partner/boyfriend Ray is a DJ and we have five 1200s; a solid quality turntable that does its job, along with good speakers, and that’s perfect for me.

What record(s) are you most proud of?

My Black Sabbath collection, they’re my favourite band and it’s taken me a lot of time, money, hours, and negotiating to obtain what I have. I particularly look for all the variations of Mater of Reality that have been released, and some of which I know I’ll never come across another copy of.

What does your record collection mean to you?

I think that music is an extension of ourselves, it evokes emotion, and brings back memories, so my record collection is a representation of all of that in a way an mp3 could never be.  Because it isn’t a limitless medium it is passed down, discovered while out digging, and sought after with a passion that no other format is.

It’s the best way to listen to and appreciate a band or musician – from the sound of music on vinyl to the cover art, and liner notes.  Working at a record pressing plant I see people’s passion for their music on a daily basis, and the excitement it brings to have their work created in a physical format like a piece of vinyl, a possible heirloom, and really a beautiful piece of art; that happiness makes the collection aspect of vinyl even more special.
