Our latest Deep Listening features the Aphex Twin classic “#3”.

Deep Listening is a new series in which The Vinyl Factory spins monumental albums and songs, both contemporary and classic, in the Devon Turnbull Listening Room at The Vinyl Factory: Reverb Exhibition in 180 Studios.

A meditative listening room created by New York artist Devon Turnbull and programmed by The Vinyl Factory, the space allows visitors to listen to music on a handmade, high-fidelity sound system. Its plush, minimalist interiors have enthralled visitors to The Vinyl Factory: Reverb exhibition and played host to events with The Blessed Madonna, Stephen O’Malley, and many more.

In our latest session, we’ve been listening to the 30th-anniversary reissue of Aphex Twin’s ambient classic Selected Ambient Works Volume II.

Released via Warp Records in 1994, Selected Ambient Works Volume II is a quiet masterpiece. Inspired by the lucid dreams of Richard D. James (aka Aphex Twin), it melds lush synths, distant soundscapes and uneasy disintegration to form a hypnotic, eerie world of sound. It remains one of the most influential and revered records in modern ambient and electronic.
