Lookout Weekend

Debbie Debb
Lookout Weekend
(Jam Packed, 1984)

Listen / Buy

Freestyle music was really popular when I was growing up in Hawaii and it still is. Obviously Debbie Deb has had a major role in representing freestyle, along with my other favourites like Shannon, Connie, and Lisa Lisa & the Cult Jam of course! Love Debbie Deb’s sassy vocals over a tough ass breakbeat. It’s so desperate. It’s so good!

Your Love

Frankie Knuckles Presents Jamie Principle
Your Love / Baby Wants To Ride
(Trax, 1987)

Listen / Buy

‘Your Love’ is always going to be so special and timeless! A gorgeous track, it’s so emotional. I love everything about this track: the arpeggiated synth, the bass line, the vocals, the lyrics, everything! It’s perfect! Probably the best house track ever made. Such a big inspiration.

The Pleasure Principle

Janet Jackson
The Pleasure Principle
(A&M, 1987)

Listen / Buy

‘The Pleasure Principle’ is definitely my favourite Janet track. It’s actually one of my favourite pop songs of all time. I used to totally practice her dance moves with knee pads on and do that awesome chair move when she jumps on it pushing it over and lands on the ground. When I saw her perform this song live, it just made me so ridiculously happy.

Don't Acid Me

House Master Baldwin Featuring Paris Grey
Don’t Lead Me
(Kool Kat, 1988)

Listen / Buy
Love ‘Don’t Lead Me’, a classic house jam by House Master Baldwin and Paris Grey. The acid mix has got haunting catchy vocals over jacking acid house bass line. Lovely! Paris Grey always turns it out. This an awesome combo/ collaboration. Who needs FX and crazy tricks when parts are this good!

Passion

Gat Decor
Passion
(Effective, 1992)

Listen / Buy

‘Passion’ is such a huge tune with an epic piano! It’s a major hands in the air track. There are so many great moments in this one. It’s so dynamic and driving, and also beautiful. It’s a major crowd pleaser and deserves a rave anthem award because tracks like this don’t come along often. It kinda makes people freak out – in the best way possible!
