William Burroughs’ rare release with Throbbing Gristle will be reissued on vinyl for the first time.

Burroughs initially drew acclaim as a leader of the ’50s Beat movement and as an icon of the ’60s counter-culture for his experimental nature and espousal drug use. He went on to release a number of spoken word projects, both solo and with collaborators including Arthur Russell and Kurt Cobain.

One of Burroughs’ most sought-after records is 1981′s Nothing Here Now But The Recordings, a fascinating cross-section of ’50s and ’60s archive recordings. The project began in 1980 when Throbbing Gristle’s Genesis P-Orridge and Peter ‘Sleazy’ Christopherson met with Burroughs in his New York apartment to trawl through previously unheard sound recordings from his tape recorder. The Throbbing Gristle members compiled various pieces of Burroughs’ work to form the album, which includes “spoken word ‘cut-ups’, collaged field recordings from his travels and his flirtations with EVP recording techniques.”

Now Dais Records have announced they will be reissuing the rare record for the first time (it did get an unofficial cassette release in 2012) since the ’80s. The updated version of Nothing Here Now But The Recordings has been fully remastered from the original tapes and will be limited to 1,000 copies.

Available in January, pre-order a copy from here.
