Watch vinyl being cut live at Capitol Records this weekend

And buy a tonne of vinyl while you’re at it.

WAX, a new music industry event centred around vinyl and record collecting culture, launches in Los Angeles this weekend (24-25 October).

Dealers, record stores and labels will gather at the iconic Capitol Records tower in Hollywood for a weekend long fair, apparently the largest of its kind in L.A. for years.

Attendees also have a rare opportunity to tour Capitol Studios and Mastering, and watch vinyl records being cut from tape on one the studio’s Neumann lathes.

Innovative Leisure DJs will control the decks on Saturday, while the Stones Throw crew soundtrack Sunday. There’ll also be panel discussions focused on every aspect of vinyl manufacturing, led by music industry professionals, artists, art directors, producers, and engineers.

Sunday concludes with a vinyl and memorabilia auction, including a signed piece of a smashed Pete Townshend guitar, an original Elvis Presley Sun Records 7-inch, and the 12 acetates cut during the vinyl mastering demonstrations.

A single-day pass to WAX is $10, or a weekend pass is £15. The Capitol Studios tour costs $40 which includes a single day pass. [via LA Weekly]
