The Scottish rock titans score the biggest selling vinyl record released this year.

To coincide with Saturday’s Record Store Day festivities, the Official Charts Company has revealed the UK’s top-selling vinyl albums of the year so far.

The top spot is occupied by Arctic Monkeys’ fifth album AM, which was released last year but has continued to shift units following the band’s BRIT Awards wins.

Rather more excitingly, at number two – and the biggest selling vinyl album to be released this year – is Mogwai’s Rave Tapes, which broke the UK’s Top 10 when it came out back in January.

Bruce Springsteen’s High Hopes is at number three, followed by Elbow’s The Take Off And Landing Of Everything and Warpaint’s self-titled second album.

Last year 790,000 vinyl albums were sold in the UK, but 2014 is already more than one-third of the way to that target after 15 weeks, according to the Official Charts Company, who predict sales will hit around 900,000 for the full year if they continue at the current rate.

Mogwai are currently rustling up a deluxe reissue of their 1999 album Come On Die Young, bundling together a mammoth 17 additional tracks. The hardworking band also have a new EP in the works, set for release in autumn.
