Los Angeles label and Stones Throw affiliate Now-Again will saves you thousands of dollars.
Put your life savings away and cancel the mortgage, Damon’s Song of a Gypsy, one of the most sought-after psychedelic rarities originally released on private press imprint ANKH in 1970 is being reissued by the consistently impressive funk, soul and psych label Now-Again Records.
With early editions known to exchange hands for thousands of dollars, this timely reissue will make the mythical recording available to a wider audience for the first time, and provides an essential reference point for fans of the West Coast psychedelia as it decayed towards the more paranoid and introspective experiences of the 70’s underground. With this release, the enigmatic Damon is rightly set to take his place at the genre’s high-table alongside Jim Morison, Arthur Lee and Sixto Rodriguez.
Overseeing the reissue himself alongside Now-Again’s Eothen “Egon” Alapatt, Song of a Gypsy has been remastered ahead of its release on 4th November 2013 and follows the news earlier in the summer that Love’s lost masterpiece Black Beauty will be released on vinyl for the first time.
