Their first in nearly 25 years.

Legendary New York duo Pete Rock & CL Smooth have announced they will release a new and “awesome” album in the new year.

The yet-to-be titled album will be their third studio album following 1992’s Mecca and the Soul Brother and 1994’s The Main Ingredient. The duo separated shortly after their second LP, and despite collaborating sporadically through the late ’90s, exchanged negative comments toward each other in interviews. In 2010, the two finally ended their creative differences, since staging a comeback tour and teasing plans for this follow-up album.

“That’s coming in 2017, we been on the road—me and C.L. [Smooth],” said Pete on Power 105’s The Breakfast Club. “That album is gonna be awesome.”

Little else is currently known about the album, but if the new Tribe album is our yardstick, this is going to be good.

Earlier this year, the duo reissued their debut EP All Souled Out on clear vinyl to mark its 25th anniversary. They also took the opportunity to repress Mecca and The Soul Brother.
