A multi-disciplinary run of shows spanning live music, dance and film.

Jeff Mills has detailed a four-date residency at London’s Barbican. Taking place June 2017, the series is called From Here To There.

The Detroit artist will perform four shows across five days, kicking off on June 8 with a performance in the Milton Court Concert Hall titled Life To Death And Back. Based on a film he made in 2014 in collaboration with Le Louvre, this first show will feature 12 choreographed dancers depicting “the 12 stages of reincarnation,” with Mills providing a live score.

The next night will see the composer create an “electronic cine-mix” set to a screening of Richard Fleischer’s 1966 sci-fi epic Fantastic Voyage. On the following evening Mills will bring Light From The Outside World, in which his catalogue is reworked by a symphony orchestra, back to the Barbican Hall following its 2015 debut. The series closes on 12 June with the UK premiere of Planets, which again features a full orchestra but this time with Mills playing “an unconventional soloist, introducing cosmic textures, atmospheres and special effects.”

Tickets for all four shows go on general sale tomorrow from the Barbican website.
