HMV celebrates return to flagship London store with reckless record giveaway.

It may not be the most sustainable of business models for retailer that filed for administration less than a year ago, but HMV’s plan to giveaway free records when its flagship 363 Oxford Street store opens for business at 8am on Monday morning looks to be going some way to rekindling a bit of excitement around the beleaguered brand.

Titles to be given away across four days next week include 300 copies of The Beatles’ ‘Live On Air Volume 2′ promo 7″ (the store hosted Lennon/McCartney and Co’s breakthrough demo recording in 1961) on Monday, 100 colour vinyl copies of Elvis Presley’s self-titled debut on Tuesday, 100 clear vinyl copies of the New Order classic Movement on Wednesday, and 30 78RPM 10″ Robbie Williams promos on Thursday.
