Bernard Herrmann’s North by North West score gets first vinyl release

The Hitchcock masterpiece.

Bernard Herrmann’s score to North by North West will receive its first ever vinyl issue via Silva Screen.

The classic 1959 Alfred Hitchcock thriller was written by Ernest Lehman, who wanted to write “the Hitchcock picture to end all Hitchcock pictures”. It’s a tale of mistaken identity; the story of a man in peril being pursued across America from New York to Mount Rushmore.

Herrmann once described his score as “a kaleidoscopic orchestral fandango designed to kick-off the exciting rout which follows”. The film is one of Herrmann’s many collaborations with Hitchcock that includes Vertigo, Psycho and Marnie. Hermann is also credited as sound consultant on The Birds (1963), which doesn’t feature a score as such, instead only electronic bird sounds.
