“An endless march through the underwoods of an imaginary, misty forest and into the disco.”

Cologne’s electronic mastermind Wolfgang Voigt is to release a selection of records made under the GAS moniker between 1997 and 2000 as part of a comprehensive vinyl box set on Kompakt.

One of Voigt’s multiple aliases, GAS is said to have been born out of the producer and label co-founder’s early LSD experiences in the Königsforst near Cologne, merging ambient electronics with minimal techno for a suite of organic, dubbed out soundscapes that rest somewhere between Kraftwerk, Wagner and the bassdrum.

Reflecting the scale and ambition of the project, the box set will include three GAS albums – Zauberberg (1997), Königsforst (1998) and Pop (2000) – all of which have been pressed to triple vinyl, instead of the double LPs they were originally released on, and feature edits that present the deep and atmospheric soundscapes as they were originally intended.

Showcasing the album’s trail-blazing artwork, the set will also feature the EP Oktember from 1999, which has become seriously sought-after on the second hand market and an art-print book featuring new and previously unseen photography from the Königsforst.

The GAS box set will be released by Kompakt on 28th October. Check out some more mock-ups of the release below.
