On gold vinyl.

The Monkees will reissue the soundtrack to their 1968 musical satire film Head via Friday Music. The re-release, titled Head Alternate, features rarities and alternate versions including stereo and rough acetate mixes.

The psychedelic art movie, released at the height of the band’s fame, was created by The Monkees’ Bob Rafelson and Jack Nicholson. The plot revolves around a successful rock group trying to escape from their “manufactured image” and in meta-fashion, the film axed their career in two. It’s since grown into a cult classic, an early case of a counter-culture film produced by the studio system.

“As the Head movie was underrated at the time, it has since gone on to become ranked as one of the finest films in the rock genre,” says the label.

Mastered from the original tapes, Head Alternate is pressed on 180g translucent gold wax with an alternate cover. Due on 3 March, place pre-orders here.
