Last summer, Bambaataa donated his 40,000 strong record collection to Cornell University. Now fans everywhere can gawk at 10 choice photos of his records.

Godfather of hip-hop culture and electro funk pioneer, Bambaataa delighted crate diggers by donating his record collection for public exploration. It was organised and catalogued publicly at the Gavin Brown Gallery in Manhattan before moving permanently to Cornell University. A seminal piece of music history,  “the record collection that invented hip-hop”  has been causing a stir with collectors who have been able to explore its depth and obscurity. Earlier this year, DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist borrowed the entire collection for a five week tour, but it’s now safely returned home to the public domain at Cornell.
