Cotch International, a new label with close ties to Peckham’s Rye Wax record shop and club, has debuted with an EP by South African-based producer Jumping Back Slash.

Titled Slow Oceans, the work shines with distant glimmers of downtempo R&B, gospel and alt-pop, whilst also drawing rhythmically from qqom, kwaito and pitori house.

Recorded over a week-long studio session in Johannesburg, the EP brings to the fore two extremely talented South African vocalists, Hlasko and Nonku Phiri, as well as the bassist Shane Cooper.

As for the new label, its mission is “to promote globally-minded music with a raw edge, shine a light on sensational new talent from across the musical spectrum, and bring exciting new hybrids into the public conscious.”

Limited to 300 copies, order Slow Oceans from Phonica.
