Reggae hotspot Deadly Dragon goes under.

Last month we witnessed a Brooklyn causality. This month, it’s Deadly Dragon Sound System on the Lower East Side. After eleven years of trading, the reggae mainstay will close on Saturday, which (perhaps ironically) is also when Record Store Day takes place.

“It’s the nature of New York, there’s no fighting it,” shop owner Jeremy Freeman told Gothamist. Their building was recently acquired by a new landlord who is pushing for higher rents. “We just couldn’t come to an agreement about the lease, so we bowed out. We’re not a huge money-making business.”

Visit Deadly Dragon at its 102 Forsyth Street address while you still can. The online shop will continue to operate whilst Freeman searches for a more affordable new spot.
