10. Richard Mosse & Ben Frost

The Enclave

(The Vinyl Factory)

The outer sleeve of The Enclave frames a human skull nestled in dense vegetation. It’s a photograph from Richard Mosse’s hauntingly kaleidoscopic audio visual installation that won this year’s Deutsche Börse Prize. The inner sleeve photography is a landscape shot of the war-torn eastern region of DR Congo that Mosse shot with old military film, initially developed to root out camouflaged enemies using an invisible infrared spectrum, rendering green landscape in vivid hues of lavender, crimson and shocking pink. The enthralling photography, printed by Verona’s Trifolio Fine Art, sandwiches two mesmerizing 15-minute compositions created by Frost especially for vinyl, based on his original multi-channel score and sound design for Mosse’s immersive film installation. Limited to 100 copies, this is a spinning piece of conceptual documentary photography.
