In 2013, a night of contemporary dance, performed by Berlin’s Staatsballett, took place at Halle Am Berghain. Hendrik Schwarz, Marcel Dettmann & Frank Wiedermann produced densely atmospheric tracks for the occasion. The alias DIN was created by Efedmin and Fengler for this affair and the duo continue to produce and release under the moniker.

Berlin-based Marcel Fengler’s been with Berghain and Ostgut Ton since the early days. His debut album sees the Berghain regular express himself in diverse ways via impressive songcrafting, layered textures and melodies. The longplayer is rich in emotion – a rarity for a Berghain release but it’s an achievement that’s done with talent and conviction.

After the success of Fünf, Ostgut offered its artists the space to release tracks a little off-kilter to what they were used to. The double 12” features a myriad of experimental techno and electronic tracks by eight Ostgut producers, which include Tobias., Barker & Baumecker, Function and sees Marcel Fengler and Efdemin team up as DIN.

This mix signalled the start of the Masse Remixes series – a project that allowed producers to explore the meaning of Masse (translation: mass). Originally created for the ballet production, the tracks were skilfully adapted for the dancefloor and further affirm the infinite talent within the Ostgut roster.
